Some lilies from my office Posted by Hello

"The Lost Folder and Other Adventures"

Last Tuesday my friend Sandy and I met for prayer and dinner. I picked her up at the tram stop and she showed me a folder that someone had apparently forgotten in the tram. It was labeled with the address of a lawyers' office downtown, and we called them on my cellphone to let them know the folder had been found. The secretary told me that the office would be open until 08:30 p.m. that night, so I said we'd drop by later on and turn it in.

Both of us had been having a rather stressful time the past few days, and asking ourselves if anyone really appreciated the things we were doing. I, in particular, was struggling with feeling like a little cog in a big, impersonal universe, even though I knew that feeling went against everything I believe in as a Christian. If you've ever seen Charlie Chaplin's "Modern Times", you'll know what I mean.

After dinner and prayer, Sandy and I headed off to the lawyers' office and had a wonderful talk along the way. When we got there, the secretary thanked us profusely for returning the folder, and presented us with a huge bouquet of flowers! We were totally flabbergasted! There's a German idiom that says "you could have pushed us over with a feather". I know that was the Lord telling both of us that we are, indeed, appreciated!

Because we had to go separate ways afterwards, we divided up the bouquet (there was certainly enough of it! :-) and walked to the next underground (=subway) station. On the way, we recalled a guy named Theodoros who had approached us at a Starbucks where we had met several weeks before. We had been unable to figure out what he wanted, or even which language he spoke, but we had tried to help him and tell him about Jesus as best we could, and had prayed for him after he left.

On my way home from the lawyers' office, I stopped by a bank at the central train station to pay a bill. On the way back down to the underground, I saw Theodoros again! We still weren't able to communicate, but this time I was able to give him a multi-language Gospel flyer I had in my pocket. We shook hands and smiled big before parting company. I know the Lord is looking out for him and will reach him in HIS own time.

When I got back home, I realized that I had left my cellphone at the restaurant where Sandy and I had eaten dinner. Because it was late and I thought the place might close soon, I called first to see if they had found it and then took a taxi back to pick it up. The waiter who had found it was very nice, and I gave him a little "Thank You" tract to say, well, thanks. I also had a nice chat with the taxi driver and he got a "Thank You" tract, too. So I guess God also "returned the favor" we'd done by taking the folder back!

That evening was a real adventure, and when I got back home I first called Sandy to tell her about Theodoros and my cellphone (she was really blessed), and then fell into bed!

My meetings with Sandy often turn out to be a little adventurous! It seems like the Lord uses us as a team to do something for HIM whenever we meet, and the fun part is that it's always a suprise, and always encourages or admonishes us as well! Isn't HE awesome? In future entries I'll continue "The Adventures of Sandy and Renee", so stay tuned! ;-)

Hi, everyone!

Hello out there! This is my very first attempt at a blog, so I'm still really wet behind the ears! I'd appreciate any tips on making my blog/website better. For now I'll leave you with one of my favorite poems:

Nature's first green is gold
Her hardest hue to hold
Her early leaf's a flower
But only so an hour

So leaf subsides to leaf
So Eden sank to grief
So dawn goes down to day
Nothing gold can stay

- Robert Frost
